Goodbye, 2022

Research, photography, and publication

Goodbye: Graffiti on Houses 2008–2022 is a photo-essay documenting graffiti and markings on houses across the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Poland, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Spanning fourteen years, the series brings together fifty-four photographs of houses marked with tags, graffiti, demolition and inspection codes, utility notices, bureaucratic symbols, protest and memorial inscriptions, and personal messages. Made outside the realm of traditional public art, these markings trace how cultural, environmental, and political changes are indexed on the surfaces of homes. Presented alongside a detailed index in both the exhibition and the publication, the series situates each photograph within its geographic and historical context, revealing a recurring visual language that emerges across geographies in moments of transition or crisis.

Goodbye: Graffiti on Houses 2008–2022 was first exhibited at MAC Yapang, New South Wales, Australia, in 2022, and at IG Bildende Kunst, Vienna, Austria, in 2025.
